Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How long does gutter installation take?
A. The amount of time it takes to install new gutters depends on your home’s exterior. Such factors as the size and shape of your house, the gutter style you choose, and the condition of your existing gutters must be considered. And, of course, the weather can play its part. Still, most CopperSmith Gutter Company installations are completed in a day.
Q. How can I avoid clogged gutters?
A. Clogged gutters are an issue for every homeowner at some point. To avoid clogged gutters, you need to check your gutters and downspouts regularly, looking for leaves, twigs, or other debris blocking the way. If you find anything in there, you’ll need to remove it before it starts backing up rainwater. You can do this on your own, or get your hands dirty doing something more enjoyable, and let a CopperSmith Gutter Company specialist clean out your clogged gutters instead.
Of course, the easiest way to avoid cleaning clogged gutters is to install gutter guards, since gutter guards keep debris from getting into your gutters and downspouts in the first place. CopperSmith Gutter Company offers homeowners a wide variety of gutter guards, all from industry leaders such as Gutter Cap.
Q. What does “seamless gutter” mean?
A. A seamless gutter is made from one continuous length of gutter stock. Normal gutters are made from pre-manufactured lengths of gutter stock, attached together end to end until the final pieces are long enough for their intended applications.
Wherever one length of pre-manufactured gutter stock is fastened to another, there’s a break, or “seam,” between them. Eventually, seams can leak, even if they’re sealed with silicone or other types of caulk. Leaks in a gutter diminish its ability to drain water away from your house effectively.
Instead of being made from several pieces of gutter stock joined together end to end, a seamless gutter is one continuous piece of gutter stock, cut to length at the jobsite. Each seamless gutter is custom cut to fit each application exactly. The only joints in a seamless gutter are at the corners and downspouts. A seamless gutter will reliably drain water away from your house for many, many years.
Q. Should my gutters be repaired or replaced?
A. Sometimes repairs will work. Sometimes replacement is necessary. If your gutters just need to be re-pitched or re-sealed, repairing them is the most cost-effective option. However, normal gutters can deteriorate to the point where they simply can’t drain rainwater away from your house effectively anymore. At this point, replacement is the only option. If this is your situation, you might as well upgrade to seamless aluminum, steel, or copper gutters.
You can also choose the replacement option if you just want to add a unique and attractive look to your house, even if your existing gutters still drain properly. For example, half-round copper gutters combine the functional advantages of seamless gutters with the aesthetically pleasing form of sculpted copper.
Q. How do I know if my gutters aren’t draining properly?
A. When it’s raining and you don’t see much water, or any water at all, coming out of the downspouts, then your gutters or downspouts are clogged. You might also notice water pouring over the sides of your gutters. Either your downspouts are completely backed up, or something is keeping the rainwater from making its way to the downspouts in the first place. Gutter guards will prevent all these things from happening.
Q. What types of gutters are available?
A. Gutters are available in many different shapes, sizes, and colors. You can choose from aluminum, steel, and copper. What you choose depends on your budget and aesthetic preference.
Q. How much do gutters cost?
A. The cost of gutters depends on the size of your house, the areas you plan to protect, and what types of materials you want to use. Also, the cost of your project will reflect the addition of soffits, fascias, or gutter guards.
